Life with the Vekto Floor Washer F40

Hoover and mop in one pass. The mop and bucket can go.

Lift it off the dock, go round the ground floor once, park it back and press one button. Here is what changes in the first week.

A woman in a bright kitchen-diner guiding the Vekto Floor Washer F40 across pale tiles, the dock in the corner behind her
One go round, not two

No hoovering first, then mopping, then hoovering up what the mop pushed about. The roller washes the floor and the suction pulls the dirty water straight up behind it. One pass, and the floor is damp, not wet.

The dirty water never touches the floor again

A mop drags the same bucket of grey water round every room. Here the dirty water goes into its own tank, and you tip it down the loo at the end. The colour of it the first time is a shock.

Dogs, kids and hard floors

Made for a house where the floor is never clean for long.

Muddy paws after the walk, porridge under the high chair, crumbs along the kitchen units. This is for the house where it never stops.

A labrador lying on a tiled hallway while the Vekto Floor Washer F40 lifts the paw prints behind it
Paw prints and crumbs in the same pass

Dog hair, grit from the garden and the muddy trail from the back door are sucked up and washed off together. The roller takes what is stuck on, the suction takes what is loose.

A fine film, then dry

The suction pulls the water back up behind the roller, so what is left is a fine film that dries in a couple of minutes. No footprints while it dries, no tea towel pushed round with a foot.

The question everyone asks

What happens when the battery gets old?

Every review of a cordless floor washer ends the same way: the battery went at month 18, the maker said it was not repairable, and the machine went in the skip. Here is the straight answer.

The Vekto Floor Washer F40 parked on its dock in a kitchen corner, the OLED screen showing the battery full
  1. 01
The battery is covered for five years

If the battery fades below 80% of its run time in the first five years, a new one is sent to you free. No registration, no "not repairable", no special offer on a new model.

  2. 02
One charge still does the ground floor

A kitchen-diner, the hall and the downstairs loo are well inside one charge. It runs up to 40 minutes, and the OLED screen shows the battery before you start. The point is finishing the floor, not the number on the box.

  3. 03
The parts are on a shelf in the UK

Roller, filter and battery are stocked in the UK for five years and sent from the UK warehouse. Not five weeks from China, not a waiting list.

The rest of it

It pulls itself along, cleans itself on the dock, and tells you what the battery is doing.

The Vekto Floor Washer F40 head on laminate with its LED strip lit, crumbs showing along the skirting board

The roller

It pulls itself forward. You steer.

The roller turns under power and pulls the machine along the floor, so going round the kitchen is closer to steering than shoving. For a bad back, a bad hip or arthritic wrists, that is the difference between a floor you clean and a floor you put off. The LED strip on the head lights up the crumbs and the hair along the skirting board so you can see what is left.

Self-clean on the dock

Park it, press one button, walk off.

Put it back on the dock and press the self-clean button. The roller spins while clean water flushes it and the water path behind it, so the muck is not sitting in the machine until next time. Then tip the dirty tank down the loo and rinse it. That is the whole routine, and it takes less time than wringing out a mop.

Water from the tap

Tap water goes in. No bottle to run out of.

Fill the clean tank at the tap. The electrolysed water system treats it on the way to the roller, so there is no own-brand solution to keep buying, no running out on a Sunday, and no machine that refuses to start without it. The OLED screen shows the battery and the mode, so you know before you start whether there is enough charge for the hall.

How it works

The WashPath™ system: from the tap to the dirty tank, with nothing left on the floor.

A floor washer comes down to three things: what goes on the floor, what comes off it, and what is left in the machine afterwards. Here is how the Vekto Floor Washer F40 handles each one.

  1. 01
    Wash

Tap water from the clean tank runs through the electrolysed water system and onto the roller. The roller turns under power, pulls the machine forward and scrubs the muck off tiles, laminate, LVT and lino.

  2. 02
    Pull the dirty water up

12 kPa of suction pulls the dirty water, the crumbs and the hair straight up behind the roller into the dirty tank. Two separate tanks, so the water going on the floor is never the water that came off it. The floor is left damp, not wet, and dries in a couple of minutes.

  3. 03
    Self-clean on the dock

Park it on the dock, press one button, and clean water flushes the roller and the water path. Tip the dirty tank down the loo, rinse it, done. Up to 40 minutes on one charge, and the battery is covered for five years.

Covered for five years, with 60 days to try it in your own home.

A repair shop's view

An appliance repair engineer explains why the Vekto Floor Washer F40 works

Twenty-four years fixing wet and dry floor washers and cordless hoovers that packed up at month 18. This is the one he tells his customers to buy, so they do not have to come back.

An appliance repair engineer in his workshop with the Vekto Floor Washer F40 and its roller on the bench
Two machines fill my bench. A cordless hoover with a dead pack, and a floor washer with a dead pack and a roller that smells. The owner has had it eighteen months, the maker says it is not repairable, and the parts are five weeks away in China. That is the whole story with these machines. I point people at the Vekto Floor Washer F40 for one reason: the battery is covered for five years, and the roller, the filter and the battery are on a shelf in the UK. The self-clean on the dock flushes the roller and the water path every time you park it, which is the bit of maintenance most people skip. Forty minutes does a ground floor. And the screen tells you what the battery is doing, so there are no surprises. That is why it is the one I tell people to buy.

What it really costs

What a hoover and mop in one really costs

Three ways to a clean hard floor, and what each one costs.

Option 1The £300 to £330 big name£330, then again at month 18

Brilliant on day one. Then the battery fades, the roller starts to smell, and at month 18 the maker says it is not repairable. There is, though, a special offer on a new model. The parts are five weeks away in China.

Option 2A cordless hoover plus a spray mop and a bucket£200 to £300 for the pair, two jobs every time

Hoover first. Then mop with a bucket of water that is grey by the second room. Then hoover up what the mop pushed about. Then wait for it to dry with the dog shut in the garden.

Option 3Vekto Floor Washer F40£349.00£429.99

Hoover and mop in one pass, the dirty water in its own tank, a roller that pulls itself along and a dock that cleans it for you. Tap water, no bottle. Up to 40 minutes on one charge, and the battery is covered for five years, with spares stocked in the UK and 60 days to try it at home. Delivered free and fast from our UK warehouse.

Kitchen tiles

Victorian terrace, black and white tiles that showed every print the dog left. Kitchen, then hall, then the back porch once she had been out, and it still had two bars showing. What I poured away was the colour of strong tea. Properly grim and properly satisfying.

Two labradors

Two labradors, grey LVT through the kitchen and a husband who'd started hinting about getting a cleaner in. Used to hoover, then steam, then wipe the streaks off with a tea towel. Now it's one go round after tea while the kids do their homework. What came out on the first go was embarrassing. Three weeks in and it feels different under bare feet.

Good, but tip it out straight away

Lino throughout downstairs and a dodgy hip, so no more kneeling down with a rag. It does the job and everything's touch dry before the kettle's boiled. Left the mucky water sitting in it overnight once and it did pong the next morning, so empty it as soon as you finish. The stand also wants a fair bit of room near a plug. Four stars for that, the cleaning is five.

Replaced a dead one

My last one from a big name conked out at twenty months and the shop said there was nothing they could do. Bought this for the five years on the battery. Lighter to push than I expected, it sort of tows itself up the hallway. The little display shows how much charge is left so you're not guessing.

Muddy paws

Cockapoo, a garden that is mostly mud from October to March, and a hall in Karndean. The cleaning fluid for the old one was fifteen quid a bottle so I'd stopped buying it. This runs on plain tap water. One run from the front door right to the back after walkies and the prints are gone, and it's dry by the time I've hung my coat up.

Is it right for you?

Is the Vekto Floor Washer F40 right for you?

For people with hard floors downstairs who are fed up with hoovering, then mopping, then hoovering again.

The Vekto Floor Washer F40 suits you if

  • Your ground floor is tiles, laminate, LVT, lino or sealed wood

Common questions

Still deciding if the Vekto Floor Washer F40 suits your home?

Along a straight skirting board, yes: the roller sits across the front of the head, so you run the head along the wall and the LED strip shows you anything left. No floor washer of this type gets right into a corner, and this one is no different. A quick wipe with a cloth finishes the corner. The rest of the room is one pass.
